From March 2018, EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) will provide port facilities in Emden and logistics services to the wind turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas for the “Borkum Riffgrund 2” offshore wind farm. After the installation of the 56 V164-8 MW wind turbines, MHI Vestas will commission the wind turbine generators and use the service base at Port Knock at the river Ems.
MHI Vestas has chosen Port Knock for its location and high level of independence. The service base will be used for the commissioning works of the wind farm “Borkum Riffgrund 2” for approximately one year. As the operator of the terminal facilities and the surrounding area, EMO supplies a comprehensive logistics service consisting of loading, warehousing, terminal logistics and berth management.
In particular, the serving of crew transfer vessels (CTV) – that means the guarantee of a safe boarding of the service technicians at the beginning and end of a shift, the loading of goods, spare parts and equipment are part of the daily business. The corresponding handling equipment provides EMO permanently.
Stephan Kremers, Commissioning Project Manager of MHI Vestas Offshore, is very satisfied: “EMO convinced us with their flexibility and availability of Locations around the river Ems delta, but in particular with the high independence of the location, 1st class services 24/7, as well as the versatility of Port Knock. We are looking forward to the cooperation with our new business partners. ”
The recently modernized Port Knock is a pier of the AG “EMS” with connected industrial area, which is located in front of the Emden harbor in the industrial area “Rysumer Nacken”. The area offers a high potential for development, which will be used extensively for the first time for an offshore wind project.
